I am a member of the NZ Association of Counsellors and I specialise in couples counselling. My clients are mostly couples who have somehow become disconnected, often through repeating patterns of bickering and nagging, fighting and withdrawing, or having just grown apart and disconnected - maybe with little or no affection, love or sexual relationship between them. I also commonly see couples who are dealing with the revelation of one partner having an affair, or some other relationship trauma seriously threatening their future together. I work with 'Emotionally Focused Therapy' (EFT) that I have been studying and training in and working with over since 2008. Like many others who are working with EFT I have found that this is far more effective for relationship work than any other problem-solving, communication skills, conflict resolution and assertiveness approaches that I used in the past. For couples whether married, in civil union or de facto relationships, funding is available through the Family Court, and I can advise how to complete a simple Request process for this assistance. My background includes 15 years in the Catholic Church, which I left in 1982, then over 20 years in business management and consulting, and since 2004 I have refocussed my work - first towards individual counselling and some coaching, and then to couples' work which I now do almost exclusively. I completed 11 years of study in the church, including post-graduate degrees in Rome and Paris (1977-81). I have also trained to the level of Master Practitioner in NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) and I bring a wide range of other learning, personal development and life experience to my work. Having joined Counselling and Psychotherapy Associates as a Director, I am based in Thorndon, Wellington. Please contact me if you would like to make an appointment or would like to just discuss making one...
